EAST MELBOURNE ROOF TERRACE

Retrofit Roof Garden _ East Melbourne VIC. Australia _ Under Construction

Located at the east corner of the CBD grid, and 19 storeys above ground, the East Melbourne Roof Terrace affords spectacular views over Melbourne, from the Treasury Gardens to the North-West, through to Federation Square, the Yarra River, Birrarung Marr, Melbourne and Olympic Parks and the MCG to the South-East.

Presently a wind-exposed deck with visually exposed glass balustrade and disused hot tub, the terrace will soon be transformed into a garden sanctuary in the sky, custom designed to be enjoyed year round.  The proposed roof garden is designed as an active and diverse landscape, where distinct spatial zones support various, place-specific functions.  Each of the zones will have a distinct view and habitat, linked by a journey that is bound by greenery.

This project is an extension of our belief that our buildings can be greener, both literally and figuratively.  Our proposal embodies our philosophy that green roofs should be designed to be enjoyed and experienced by people. To us, creating functional, beautiful and liveable rooftop gardens adds a layer of social sustainability to the environmental outcomes green roofs alone can provide.
