urban rooftop park
Green Wall and Roof Retrofit _ Prahran VIC. Australia _ Design Completed 2015
Commissioned by the City of Stonnington as a feasibility study for the Growing Green Guide for Melbourne Project, the 5,300 square concrete carpark is transformed into a recreational park for the local residents through the addition of a new green roof level.
People are surrounded by greenery whilst enjoying numerous community activities which activate the experience of the urban park and foster community pride. The greenery is celebrated through the experience of the rooftop with topographical changes and the introduction of mature trees. The greenery spills down the face of the carpark structure below at critical points to announced the presence of the park above.
The much anticipated Victoria’s Guide to Green Roofs, Walls and Facades is scheduled for release in early 2014. A draft version of the guide is currently available for public viewing and feedback on http://growinggreenguide.org/.
